Car parking is available for parents outside our school. We please ask that you're careful when dropping off and picking up your children and always park in painted carparks on the street. Please do not use the disability carpark or park on the yellow lines, even if you are simply dropping off. There is a 30km speed limit in and around our school. Entry to the school grounds can be gained through two gates off Barriball Street, one off Sackville Street (by the Fitzroy Hall) and one from Clemow Road. We ask that you take some time with your children, especially when beginning at Fitzroy School, to determine the best possible route for them to travel to and from school. At this time it is important for them to become aware of the dangers encountered enroute.
Vehicles are not to be driven into the school grounds. We have a large number of students on the move at these times and their safety, as always, is paramount. There is a car park outside the main school gates designated for families of children with mobility/disability needs. We ask that this space is kept clear at all times so that those families are able to use this car park. The New Plymouth District Council monitors the "No Parking" zone at the school gates; you may not stop at any time on the broken yellow lines.
Road Traffic Patrollers (trained Year 6 students) and a staff member are on duty at the Barriball Street crossing at the following times: 8.25am - 8.55am and 3.00pm - 3.15pm. If your child walks to school and needs to cross Barriball Street, please ensure he/she uses the patrolled crossings, and leaves home on time to make use of this service.
Students needing to cross Devon Street East are expected to use the lights. Parents should ensure that children are trained in the correct crossing procedures at this very busy intersection. These traffic lights are not supervised by the school.

School lunches may be purchased from the Euro Deli in the village. These may be ordered before school at the Deli (please note - hot chips can be ordered only on Thursdays). The lunches are delivered to the school by the Deli staff and then distributed to the children.

Activity Donation
At Fitzroy School we provide a range of vibrant and engaging opportunities for students. Expenses incurred in providing these activities or events over and above the New Zealand Curriculum, including learning experiences outside the classroom, are paid for by an Activity Donation of $120 per child, per annum. ($30 per term) Any additional siblings will be charged $100 per child per annum ($25 per term). For children enrolled throughout the year, a reduced donation will be levied.
Class Trips and Events
The school can only charge for additional costs of trips and activities if you have been advised beforehand and have agreed to pay them. A permission slip for this is provided and we ask that, if you are in agreement, you sign this form and your school account will be charged.
Kindo Account
All fees and charges can be paid online through your Kindo account. If you do not have a Kindo account, please go here to create one. This is our preferred option for processing payments.
For those wishing to make payment via internet banking the school account details are:
Account Name: Fitzroy School Board of Trustees
Account Number: 153944-0176525-80
Make sure you include your child's name and Room number.
School assemblies are held on alternate Fridays at 9.10am in the school hall. Parents and friends are welcome to attend these events which are planned and run by the children. Our assemblies are a celebration of the work our tamariki have completed in class. Class awards are presented to tamariki and we always sing some of our special songs.
We ask that parents encourage students to wear appropriate clothing for school. Children take part in fitness and art activities during the day so something suitable for physical activity, creative work as well as classroom activities would be great. It's always a good idea to have layered clothing so that students can remove warmer clothing in the warmer days and pop on a warm top when it's cold. Please name all clothing.
School hats are compulsory during Terms 1 and 4. These are available for purchase from the Resource Room in the main block. You can pay with cash or order through your Kindo account and the hat will be delivered to your child in class. Swimming togs and towel are to be brought everyday for term 1 and sometimes at the end of term 4.
Mislaid property (particularly clothing) is gathered, stored and displayed in our Lost Property Bins - located daily in the senior block corridor. Please name all clothing items. Named clothing will be returned where ever possible. Please check the trolley regularly. At the end of each term any unclaimed items will be given to charity.
Phones / Smart Devices at School
Cellphones/Smart Watches are not encouraged unless there are exceptional circumstances. Children requiring a cellphone/smart watch must deliver their device to the office on arrival to school and collect it after the 3pm bell. Whilst all care will be taken, we do not accept any responsibility for cellphones/smart watches at school.
School Grounds
Our school grounds are available for informal use by families and friends outside of school hours. For more organised or intensive use, please seek approval through the Principal or Board of Trustees Presiding Member.
We are appreciative to members of the community keeping a watchful eye on our school environment and advising us of any damage or inappropriate use that may have occurred. The school has security cameras operating to assist us in identifying anyone responsible of willful damage or inappropriate behaviour.
Our school is a totally smoke/vape free environment, and we ask all who come into the school to respect this. We thank you for your co-operation.
Every endeavour is made to ensure that our school is a safe and secure environment for all our students. However, accidents will occur from time to time. Our sick bay is located by the school office.
We have in place a policy which specifies action to be taken by staff in the event of an accident. In emergencies we will contact you. Please ensure your details are kept up-to-date with the school office. Playground equipment is regularly inspected and repairs carried out promptly as required. Please let us know if you notice anything unsafe in our playground or school grounds.
Some sports require mouth guards. No rugby is to be played, either formal or informal, without a mouth guard. Parents - please ensure your child has one.
