Frequently Asked Questions
How do I find out about my child's progress?
The school provides formal progress reports twice a year. The mid-year update includes a written report, which serves as a foundation for a three-way interview between the parent, student, and teacher. These meetings are held in Term 2, and we will send out information on how to book your appointment online closer to the time. At the end of the year, students receive a final comprehensive written report. Beyond these formal times, you are always welcome to make an appointment with your child's teacher to discuss their learning at any point during the year.
How often is the school newsletter published?
Our school newsletter is published every second Friday, starting from Week 2 of each term. It is distributed via the Hero app or emailed to all caregivers. If you are not receiving these updates, please check your "Junk" folder or contact the school office to verify that we have your correct email address.
While we primarily communicate digitally, a few hard copies are printed for those who prefer them; these can be collected from the school office. Alternatively, you can always download the latest edition from the link at the bottom of the school's home page.
What time is the earliest my child can be at school?
Classrooms are open for children from 8:30 am.
Please note that our playground and school grounds are not supervised prior to this time; therefore, for the safety of our students, we do not allow children to enter the gates before 8:30 am. Children are also not permitted to play on the playgrounds or courts before this time.
A bell will ring at 8:30 am, at which point students are welcome to enter the school grounds and head to their classrooms or the playground.
What time is the school office open?
8:30 am - 3:15 pm Monday to Friday. The office is closed during school holidays.
What is the School Donation?
Our School Donation is tax-deductible, and these funds are used to provide high-quality educational experiences that go above and beyond the standard curriculum. These contributions allow us to offer a wide range of activities, including the Life Education Bus, in-school performances, visits to Puke Ariki and the Govett-Brewster Art Gallery, and swimming lessons in our school pool. They also fund specialist instructors for Kapa Haka, Turf hockey, and golf, as well as transport for class outings and the Years 4–6 athletics day at Inglewood TET Stadium.
The School Donation for 2026 is $120 per child for the full year (or $30 per term). For families with more than one child, the donation for each additional sibling is reduced to $100. You can easily view and print your donation receipts directly from your myKindo account.
My child has lost an item of clothing
We encourage all clothing to be labelled with your child's name. Lost items of clothing are placed on the "Lost Clothing" bins which are located in the main corridoor of the main block.
At the end of each term unclaimed items will be sent to charity.
Can our family use the school pool?
The school pool is open during Terms 1 and 4. We are pleased to offer pool access to Fitzroy School families only for use after school, during holidays, and over the weekends.
If you would like to purchase a pool key, please visit the school office to enquire about pricing and availability.
Are cellphones permitted at school?
Cellphones are discouraged at Fitzroy School and are only permitted for safety or essential parental contact. If a student needs to bring a phone to school, it must be handed into the school office upon arrival for secure storage.
Phones can be collected at the end of the school day. Please note that the school accepts no responsibility for lost or stolen cellphones if this protocol is not followed.
What happens if I have a question or concern?
If you have a classroom-related question or concern, please speak with your child's teacher first. If you feel uncomfortable doing so, or if the matter remains unresolved, please feel free to contact our Principal, Dee Luckin, or our Deputy Principal, Cushla Young.
Where do I get a red Fitzroy School hat from?
Red Fitzroy School hats are available for $20 each. These can be purchased with cash from our Resource Room or via your myKindo account, where they will then be delivered directly to your child's classroom.
Please remember that school hats are compulsory for all students during Terms 1 and 4.
