Sports

There is a huge range of sports opportunities that children can get involved in within and outside of Fitzroy School.  Keep an eye on Hero posts for when and how to register for these teams.  Our Inter-school Exchange happens in term 2 for our Year 5 and 6 students where they compete with other schools from New Plymouth.

Athletics: in term 4 at Fitzroy School.  Or get in touch with Athletics Taranaki.

Basketball:  we compete in Inter-school Exchange in term 2.  We also have Mini-ball teams through school who compete afterschool or in the weekends.  Or get in touch with Taranaki Basketball.

Cricket: we have school teams which compete on the weekends.  Or get in touch with Taranaki Cricket.

Cross Country:  we have a School Cross Country day in term 3.  Top runners are sent to the New Plymouth Cross Country and then to Taranaki Cross Country championships

Golf: we don't have golf at school but your child can get involved with Junior Golf through Taranaki Golf.

Hockey:  we have a hockey team that compete on the weekends.  We are also lucky enough to have Taranaki Hockey reps come in and run sessions during the year with every class.  If you're keen on more, get in touch with Taranaki Hockey.

Inline Hockey: we don't have inline hockey at school but your child can get involved by contacting Skatesports.

Netball: we have two senior teams which compete in Inter-school Exchange in term 2.  School trials will be held at the end of term 1 for these teams.  There are also teams who compete through Netball Taranaki.

Rippa Rugby:  we send a rippa rugby senior team to compete in the school champs every year.  Or get in touch with the Taranaki Rugby Union.

Rugby: we have a senior team which competes in Inter-school Exchange in term 2.  School trials will be held at the end of term 1 for this team.  There are also teams who compete in the weekends.  Get in touch with the Taranaki Rugby Union.

Skateboarding:  we encourage students to bring their skateboards to school on a class by class rotation.  Keep your eyes out on notices for when your class is booked.  Students must bring their own gear and helmet.  We run a Skateboarding Champs and display in term 4.

Soccer: we have a senior team which competes in Inter-school Exchange in term 2.  School trials will be held at the end of term 1 for this team.  There are also teams who compete in the weekends.  Get in touch with the Central Football.

Surfing:  we run surfing in term 4 for year 6 students who are keen.  

Swimming:  we are lucky to have junior and senior pools onsite which are open terms 1 and 4.  We run swimming lessons for Years 0-3 by outside providers which are free for students.  Our teachers in years 4-6 run swimming lessons, focused on water safety mostly.

Touch Rugby:  we have reps who come in to run touch rugby workshops with classes during the year.  If you're keen on more, get in touch with City Touch.

Weetbix Tryathlon:  the ever popular Weetbix Tryathlon runs every year and many of our students join in.  Parents are required to sign their children up and take them along on the day.  We always make sure there's a few staff members and our Fitzroy Tent down at the event.  Sign up by visiting Weetbix Tryathlon.
